Artist Statement

My form and color language seeks to satisfy both emotionally and intellectually. It is meant to be a continual resting point for the eye. Those who own my work never stop telling me that, over the years, they grow more and more fond of it.

I can not shake my interest in the role of painting as it relates to architecture. My undergraduate studies at the Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, Holland (1968-1972) influence me to this day. There I studied under Jan Rietveld, son of Gerrit Rietveld, the famed “De Stijl” architect and furniture designer.

My form language relates to music in its patterns and themes. This framework gives me the freedom to work with color in an intuitive way. The patterns are chosen carefully, out of many studies, with as main goal to create the environment for me to intuitively “play” with color and color composition. Because this kind of painting relates strongly to its architectural environment, most of my work is large, between 36” x 36” and (so far) 24’ x 24’.

I am a prolific worker. I have spent the last 13 years working with geometric patterns. The work on this web site is a selection of what was produced in those 13 years. I am ready to send images to architects, art consultants and others with interest in my work. Do not hesitate to call or e-mail me. I am easy to work with and have a reputation of completing commissions within agreed time schedules.
